HLTAID002 Provides Basic Emergency Life Support

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to recognize and respond to life-threatening emergencies in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.

This unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide an emergency response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Please note it is a requirement of this course that practical demonstration of CPR must be performed on the floor.

1 day face to face with the trainer and assessor

Assessing the situation

Basic life support – DRSABCD

Performing CPR

Demonstrating the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)

Care of the unconscious person

Special techniques for children and infants

CPR in special circumstances

Breathing emergencies including choking and asthma

Shock

Severe allergic reaction

Bleeding and wound care

Infection control

There are no prerequisites for this course.

The recommended industry standard for maintaining current competency for this course is to be refreshed every 3 years with the CPR component refreshed every 12 months.

Students will be assessed through the demonstration of practical skills, participation in role plays, analysis of case studies and written answers.

On successful completion of this training course, students will be issued with up to date certification – a nationally recognized Statement of Attainment for HLTAID002 Provide basic emergency life support.
